In accordance with the announcement of Saudi authorities on the sighting of the new moon of Dhul Hijjah, the Islamic Institute of Toronto will be observing Eid Ul Adha on Sunday August 11.

Dhul Hijjah 1 falls on Friday August 2 and it heralds the ten days of Dhul Hijjah.

The Day of 'Arafah is Saturday August 10 - this is the main day of Hajj. Fasting is recommended on this day for those who are not performing Hajj.

Please consult the resources below for more on the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah, and recommended practices for the Day of Arafat and Eid al-Adha.

Prayer will be outdoors - please dress according to the weather, and bring: prayer mats, umbrella, sunglasses and reusable shoe-bags.

Please make wudu at home, arrive early, and consider carpooling with family and friends. Parking available on both sides of Neilson Road, at the Scarborough Convention Centre, and Neilson Park (just south of Neilson & Finch) - no parking on Finch Avenue.

The IIT is wheelchair accessible, and ASL interpretation will be provided.

Zhul Hijjah 1433 and Eidul Adha Announcement

There have been numerous reports of verified sighting of Hilal on the eve of 29th Zhul Hijjah 1433, Tuesday 16th October, 2012 from within the parameters of the Hilal Committee of Toronto, namely Barbados & Trinidad. Therefore the month of Zhul Hijjah will be on Wednesday the 17th of October, 2012.

Correspondingly the 10th of Zhul Hijjah - EID AL ADHA - will fall on Friday the 26th October 2012.

 There have been confirmed sightings of the new crescent in the parameters (namely Guyana & Granada) of the Hilal Committee on the eve of Saturday August 18th, 2012 (29th Ramadan 1433), therefore the Hilal Committee of the GTA officially declares the completion of the blessed month of Ramadan. The 1st of Shawwal (Eidul Fitr) will be on Sunday August 19, 2012,
